For international flights the more useful airports are Naples
and Palermo as these are connected
by train to Calabrian destinations. The toe
of Italy's boot is a remote and poor region still little-known to tourists. The
area offers a memories of more illustrious times over two thousand years ago when
Calabria was part of Magna Graecia, a rich and powerful Greek colony. The
famous Riace bronze statues, found and recovered from the sea is now in the Museo
Nazionale of Reggio di Calabria. The area
is mountainous and full of remote villages and the region's larger towns are mostly
modern and unappealing. Some curiousities
are the Greek-speaking villages, and an Albanian community which is dating back
five hundred years. Calabria has 780km of
