The city of Friedrichshafen (Zepelin
town) Famous for the Zepelin museum - one
of the largest aeronautical collections - and not to forget the Zepelin village. Many
workers moved to Friedrichshafen due to the building of the Zeppelin corporation
starting in 1908. In order to create living quarters, for the many Zepelin workers
attracted to the area the Zeppelin-Wohlfahrt GmbH (Zeppelin welfare corp.) developed
the Zeppelin village from 1914-1919, planned by the architects Paul Bonatz and
Friedrich Eugen Scholer from Stuttgart and coordinated by Paul Zeller. The community
consisted of single, double and row houses with large yards which were meant to
provide for themselves as well as for the keeping of small animals. The connecting
street provided easy access to the Zeppelin dockyards. During World War II the
village was destroyed but was rebuilt afterwards in such a way as to maintain
the whole flaire. This is just one of the
points of interest in Friedrichshafen. Site
