New hand baggage guidelines as per 6th of November (small quantities of liquids are allowed).

Strictly one item of cabin baggage per passenger, no bigger than - 56 centimeters long (approximately 22 inches) - 45 centimeters high (approximately 17.5 inches) - 25 centimeters deep (approximately 9.85 inches).

This is the allowance by security check - please check with your airline as they may have smaller restrictions!

As of the 6th of November 2006 small quantities of liquids are allowed

This includes - toothpaste - liquid cosmetics -

  • All liquids must be in individual containers not greater than 100ml capacity
  • All containers must be placed in one transparent re-sealable transparent bag, no larger than 20cm x 20cm 8" x 8" in size.
  • The containers must fit comfortably inside the bag so it can be fastened closed
  • Only one bag per passenger is allowed.
  • The bag must be clear and re-sealable, such as ziplock bags or bags with pressable seals.
  • Larger bags or bags that are sealable, such as fold-over sandwich bags are not allowed
  • Each passenger must remove their clear plastic bag from their hand baggage and place it in on the conveyor belt for X-ray screening
  • Liquids in containers of more than 100ml capacity can be packed in your checked in baggage

 

Hand baggage:

Permitted hand baggage size as from Friday 22nd of September 2006 onwards:

- 56 centimeters long (approximately 22 inches)

- 45 centimeters high (approximately 17.5 inches)

- 25 centimeters deep (approximately 9.85 inches)

You don't have to starve......

Passengers will be able to purchase items from the departures lounge once they have passed through security and carry these onto the aircraft.

However, if you are travelling to the USA, you will be able to purchase goods for consumption in the airport but no additional items, other than those on the list, can be carried onto the aircraft. These passengers will be subject to a secondary search at the departure gate before boarding. Any items not on the approved list will be removed.

The bag CAN include:

- Electronic equipment including mobile phones, digital cameras and MP3 players (such as i-Pods)

- BAA will now be allowing passengers to take solid cosmetics in hand luggage

- Prescription medicines in liquid form, eg diabetic kit

- Baby milk and liquid baby food (the contents of each bottle MUST be tasted by the accompanying passenger)

- Laptops must be removed from the bag for x-ray.

All remaining items in pockets should be placed in the clear plastic bag provided, eg car keys and fobs, cash, solid food, books, newspapers, cigarettes and tobacco.

Musical instruments can now be taken on board.

Pushchairs and walking aids are permitted but must be x-ray screened.

All wheelchairs will be subject to search.

Please note: You may be subject to a hand search by the security team and required to remove footwear to be x-ray screened.

Once in the departure lounge passengers may purchase any item in any store and take it onto the aircraft as normal unless you are travelling to the USA.
